Photo ops with Renee

T and I weren’t planning on getting a photo op this year but Kathy came up with the idea of pitching in 10 bucks each and getting a Xenaversity group shot. I was like “ Yea what a GREAT idea!” So that’s what we did. It was fun to see Renee close up, she looked so cute in her Déjà Vu All Over Again costume but as usual it went by pretty quick. James was able to give her a copy of the Xenaversity’s movie Xena-V-The Soul Sucker Of Japa. She said she had remembered seeing our other movies (we were able to get her copy’s of those as well) and said we were very talented<PROUD GRIN> another part of the photo op I love is actually standing in line with the other fans. We had a blast! That all part of the fun for me!

The convention started with more video winners:

-I’m in the Mood for Dancing by (I’m sorry I didn’t catch the editors name) <GREAT >

-Warrior Princess of Chin by ARS<this was in my opinion the BEST video of the weekend> now this wasn’t a music video it was more like epic movie trailer featuring the episodes The Debt 1 & 2. It was edited perfectly and best of all it had me on the edge of my seat and it gave me the shivers<just like some of those Xena episodes used to do…it was awesome!!!! >

-Celebrity Duets medley by Angela<this was another wonderful montage of clips fro the Celebrity Duets show, I LOVED it! >

Trivia contest

This was really fun! I love trivia! Annie, Cory and Chris got called up for the trivia contest. I was really trying to come up with a question or two that may or may not stump the panel but I was drawing a big blank. James wanted me to go up on stage with Cory because Cory and I are always trying to stump each other with our XWP trivia and James thought we would make a good team but Adam only would let one of us on stage so I pushed Cory up front (I don’t think he even had a chance of backing out…LOL!) There were some GREAT questions, some of them I had no clue as to the answer so I was pretty happy I didn’t go up there LOL! The panel ended up each winning $50.00 Creation gift certificate! Way to go guys!

Jay Laga’aia-Draco

Jay comes out with his guitar and opens up his stage time with the song “Love The One Your With” He is such an entertaining singer! He talked in length about how he was supposed to send emails back to his kids but couldn’t find an adaptor for his laptop. He went all over trying to find one…and when he did find one he got it back to the hotel and of coarse it was the wrong one…LOL! He was pretty funny. He talked about some of his experiences on Xena. He mentioned about the Draco headpiece he wore, they actually had to glue the front down on his forehead and for the longest time he had a little scar on his forehead from the glue…LOL He gave GREAT Kudos to the stunt team that worked on Xena. He called fandom “The Strange Club” of with he proclaims himself to be the treasurer<grin> and called fandom “A safe place to be”(he has done some Star Wars related cons as well. As some of you know he was in Star Wars Episode II and III) He also did an Elvis and Michael Jackson impersonation, which totally cracked me up.

I’m not sure if he said he has written children’s books in the past or is in the process of writing them now but no doubt they are going to be wonderful. You can tell he is totally driven by the love of his family especially his children. The oldest of his seven kids being 22 years old and the youngest only a few months old (I had asked him about his kids when he came to our table at the breakfast) He also mentioned something about doing a children’s show in NZ. as well. He ended his time on stage with a song he wrote for his children inspired by a child he met while visiting burn victims in the hospital, it is called, “I am Blessed” It was a beautiful song, you could hear a pin drop! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again this guy should bring some CD’s with him next time, he would make a mint!

Brittany Powell-Brunhilda

WOW what a surprise she turned out to be. A little saucy would be an understatement!! I don’t know how it was brought up perhaps some one yelled from the audience but some how the subject of auctioning her bra came up. She mentioned her charity called The Desi Gietz<sp? > Foundation. Going strictly by memory here (not in my notes)…If I remember correctly one of the crewmembers on General Hospital (Brittany played Summer on GH) has a sick child and all money raised would go directly to the foundation. So she offered to auction her bra off and as the bidding went higher she kept adding to the package, ok I’ll autograph it”…another couple of bids…then she said she would take to bra off in front of the winning bidder (which I found out later on she actually did…. too funny) a couple of more bids…then she offered to let the winning bidder take the bra off her themselves (which I found out later from the winning bidder she respectfully declined to take the bra off Brittany herself) I believe the winning bid was $1100.00 and the winning bidder added another 400.00 to make the total 1500.00 (too cool! Xenites rock!!!!) Brittany totally reminded me of a cross between Sexy Vicky Pratt and sultry Hudson Leick. I bet with a few more conventions under her belt we’ll have a new convention favorite! Watch and see…! Another thing that totally cracked me up was right after Brittany’s Q and A there was an intermission, you go out into the lobby and the line to purchase photo op’s for Brittany was around the corner. Then later on that afternoon during Michael Hurst’s and Jennifer Ward Lealand’s Q and A they announce that the photo ops for Brittany will be starting almost half the audience gets up to go to the photo op and Michael said ‘Was it something I said?’ it was soooo funny!
Brittany also talked about shooting her Xena eps. They took about three weeks to shoot and Lucy and Renee were so awesome to work with (Everyone seems to say that about Lucy and Renee…so it must be true! <grin>) she mentioned she even did some of her own stunts. She had not watched any episodes of Xena before getting cast but was very excited to get the role! She was scheduled to be a Playboy Playmate of the month but declined because she didn’t want to be bound by the contractual obligations they put on you. Some asked her about a rumor of some additional scenes with Gabby / Brunhilda, Brittany paused for a second and said “Oh yea that version is playing on the Play Boy channel” “oh my, I’m being bad aren’t I?” she says with a giggle…big laughs from the crowd! Some of her previous acting jobs were a lot of Aaron spelling shows like: Silk Stalking’s, Renegade, Pacific Palisades and also the movie Airborne. Currently she is learning to waltz for an up coming play she is working on and she has an 8year old son named Tyson. I bet she’ll be back next year; she was a lot of fun!

One more video contest winner, A Michael Hurst Tribute video called “So Serious” by Paul<VERY FUNNY>

Michael Hurst-Iolaus & Jennifer Ward Lealand
Zehara and Boadicea

I love these two. They both came out together for their Q and A and sat in chairs in the middle of the stage.
Jennifer is touring with her show “Falling In Love Again” and also working on a play called “Berlin.” Michael is working on a play called “Mr. Marmalade” about a girl who has an imaginary friend. Michael is also on the board of trustees for the Kevin Smith foundation. He said that Sue and the boys are doing well and one of Kevin’s sons looks EXACTLY like him. Some one asked them how they met and they said back in 1982 Michael was teaching a class and Jennifer was one of the students, then in 1983 they were in a play together and that’s when they decided they needed to be together and they have been together ever since. 24 years to be exact! Michael is also directing a movie called “Damnation Island” about a Survivor type reality show that goes terribly wrong<that sounds like my kind of movie LOL>

Michael talked a little about “Frock Day” it’s a tradition in NZ pick a day where everyone wears some kind of Frock to work meaning most of the guys would wear women’s dresses and some of the women wore dresses as well…LOL. He’s not sure how or when this tradition got started but it was part of the XWP set as well. People would wear their Frocks then change back in to their regular clothes after lunch!

Inappropriate Stranger-
A video presentation from Wendy Woody and Tara Chadwick

Oh man this was funny! Belly laughs all around please! This was a cute movie that had Tara Chadwick as Callisto going around the Texas Renaissance Fair interviewing people as she was looking for Xena. I really LOVED this. The expressions on Callisto’s face as she was interviewing these folks some who knew who Xena was and some who had never heard of her….PRICLESS!! VERY clever idea! Way to go gals!

The costume/talent contest:

There were a lot of GREAT entries including my mom as Lao Ma (its not Lao Ma its My Ma, kind of a running Joke all day…LOL) The final three were narrowed down in the adult category and it was Jo as Xena in first place my mom Karen as Lao Ma in second place and a totally cool Demon Xena in third place. Cory took first place in the Jr. division as Lucifer. There were a lot of neat entries in the talent part of the competition as well…including James singing “Hate Is The Star” from Bitter Suite, which was wonderful! Way to go James! I was in line for autographs around this time so I didn’t get to see much of the talent part at all. I understand a couple of gals doing stunts won! WAY to go everyone who entered the talent competition, you have more courage than I (and talent…LOL!)

Lucy Lawless in concert at the Roxy SOLD OUT!

Well what can I say about this that hasn’t been already said? It was Fantastic! We got to the Roxy a little early and there was already a line up at the door. It was FREEZING and for this Minnesotan to say that about downtown LA you know it had to have been cold! But hey in True Xenite fashion we had a ball waiting in line. There was a camera crew outside taking shots of the crowd and well you put rowdy Lucy fans in front of the camera and well the rest is history LOL! We got in to the Roxy, which was a lot smaller than I imagined, it reminded me a lot of First Ave. in Minneapolis (Princes’ bar they shot the movie Purple Rain in) except First Ave has two floors. Anyways by now my feet are starting to kill me and I’m feeling a pain in my knee (yea I know it’s a Bit** getting old) I’m thinking there is No way I’m going to make it through his whole show, then the MC, Kit Kat comes out to introduce the warm up comedian both Kit Kat and the comedian were GREAT. Then Lucy is introduced and the crowd goes ballistic!!! HEY what knee pain, what foot pain? I don’t have any pain, I’m doped up on Lucy right now, too bad those drug companies can’t bottle a little of that they’d be even richer!! Now all I can see is Lucy in a tight white t-shirt type thingy with blue jeans with leather chaps there is nothing else around me. I was sure she was looking right at me and I knew we had a connection…(J/K!! remember that SNL skit when the audience member asked Lucy if she felt the connection between them…too funny) anyways right off hand I can’t really remember the titles to every song she sang but two that stuck out of coarse was Janis’s, “Piece of my Heart” and Melissa’s “Like The Way I do”. Let’s give em Something to talk about” Then later on Lucy comes out in a go go type out fit starts singing the song “Shake That Thing” and who comes out in a Blue go go outfit of her own is Renee and shake that thing she did…it was so GREAT to see those two on stage looking as hot as ever!!!! A few other songs Lucy sang were of coarse “Come To Mama”, the crowd started singing along with “I’ll Stand By You” I thought it was a special moment between Lucy and her fans! What a wonderful evening it was indeed, made all the more special by having T, my mom Karen (who had a blast BTW) James and Cory and all my XOM/Xenite friends with me! How cool is that?
